Biography
F. Orhun ORHON, Conductor, Composer
As a forthcoming and often sought conductor of his generation, Orhon has been student of well known maestro Gürer Aykal on conducting and Elhan Bakihanov and Rainer Boesch in France on composition. He has been credited for his diverse repetoire ranging from modern chamber music to large orchestral music along with his interest for new composed works. He is also acclaimed for the first recordings and world premiers of many Turkish Composers’ Works.
Orhon participated as assistant conductor in international youth orchestra projects like the World Youth Orchestra and both assistant and principal conductor in Greek Turkish Youth Orchestra(GTYO) and National Youth Orchestra of Turkey(UGSO). In 2008's Greek-Turkish Youth Orchestra project he was assigned as assistant conductor to Vladimir Askhenazy and in 2011, he studied actively with Maestro Kurt Masur in Detmold, Germany. In spring 2011 he founded Ankara Youth Symphony Orchestra(AGSO) with his students and colleagues; an instution which aims to bring together forthcoming music students of Turkey with professional musicians. This project rose interest and the orchestra has been invited to play in known occasions inTurkish Music Scene and participated often in Festivals. Ankara Youth Symphony is also rewarded the orchestra of the year title by Donizetti Clasiscal Music Awards in 2016 where Orhon was selected as the conductor of the year.
Orhon is currently teaching at the state conservatory of Baskent University in Ankara where he is also the principal conductor of Orkestra Akademik Başkent. He is also a regular guest conductor of many orchestras as well as modern music ensembles as Hezarfen Ensemble based in Istanbul and NK Ensemble. Apart from conducting Orhon serves as consultant to many musical events, festivals and orchestras and actively supports new hub formations and upcoming musicians in music industry.
